Toaster Oven (Instant Omni Plus)
The Instant Omni Plus is a toaster oven and air fryer. It also has other functionality (e.g. rotisserie). The oven was donated to the space by seapunk.
There are two parts not included with the oven:
- Wire rack (missing, needs replacement)
- Rotisserie spit rod (@seapunk has to find it and bring it in)
Safety
- Use oven mitts! Don't burn yourself.
- Don't touch the door anywhere except the handle! The door gets really hot, and the handle is the only reasonably cool part that can be touched when the oven (is being/was recently) used.
- Supervise the oven when it's cooking! Periodically make sure the oven isn't breaking or burning anything while it's in use.
- Keep the oven away from other things. Keep at least a 6 inch clearance from all sides of the oven, and don't put anything heat-sensitive near it.
- Don't plug the oven into an extension cord. The oven uses a lot of power, and might damage the extension cord, causing a fire hazard.
- Be mindful of the circuit breaker: If too many high powered appliances are running on the same circuit (e.g. microwave, bread toaster), it can trip the breaker.
- Exercise caution handling the pointy rotisserie attachments.
Usage
Using the oven is pretty straightforward, press which function you want to use, set the temperature and time with the right knob, and press the start button. Don't worry about the food presets too much, just pick one that fits best with what you're cooking.
Note: For me (@seapunk), I've found that baking times are really inaccurate with this oven, and it tends to run hotter than the set temperature. If baking using recipes or package instructions, lower the temperature by roughly 50F for the same cook time (so if recipe says to bake for 30 minutes at 350F, cook for 30 minutes at 300F instead). This doesn't apply to air frying, and you can use the temps and times on the instructions. YMMV.
While the oven is on, pressing the left knob will toggle the light for a few seconds, and pressing the right knob will let you adjust the temp and times. Once set, press the start button again to apply the changes.
Once done, please clean the basket and/or tray and clear the crumb tray (that slides out from the bottom).
Cleaning
Tray
Scrape any crusted on food off into the trash, and throw it in the dishwasher (or wash by hand)
Air fryer basket
Soak it in hot water with dish soap for at least 5 minutes first to loosen up the stuck on bits. Once softened, use a brush to scrub the gunk off the basket. You can also try tossing it in the dishwasher - if it cleans well, edit this page to recommend using the dishwasher instead.
The basket tends to chew up sponges, so avoid using them if you can, or at least check for any stuck pieces of sponge that gets stuck on the basket before drying.
Don't use steel wool! The basket chews those up too, and steel wire could get stuck on the basket, creating a food hazard.
Oven
When the oven is cool, wipe the sides and the inside of the door down with a damp towel to minimize grease buildup. omni_plus.pdf
